Selecting a Contractor
Here are a few tips for selecting and hiring a contractor for your solar
project:
- Make sure the potential contractor is licensed, bonded & insured with the
Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) Click here to verify. Click here to check a license.
- If you are taking advantage of Energy Trust of Oregon cash incentives make
sure they are listed with Energy Trust as a Trade Ally. Click here to check
trade ally status.
- Avoid Contractors who do not return your call promptly; this is a good
indication that they will not show up to the job on time or for that matter
finish on time.
- Don't just hire a contractor because they have submitted the lowest bid.
Remember the old saying "You get what you pay for"!
- Make sure and get a formal proposal/bid/estimate in writing and in detail
outlining all of the work to be performed; never accept a verbal
proposal/bid/estimate.
- Don't just get one bid, get several bids, especially on the larger jobs.
- Remember to ask around, word of mouth from your friends, family and
neighbors say a lot about the potential of the contractor.
